The free Afterimage web viewer processes your selected Grok export inside your browser. It does not upload your export, prompts, media IDs, images, videos, tags, albums, ratings, favorites, or notes to an Afterimage server.
Who operates Afterimage
Afterimage is operated by ZenPulse Labs LLC. “Afterimage” is the codename for this public beta, not a finalized product name, and it may change. Afterimage is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by xAI or Grok.
What this page does and does not claim
This is a public website. Loading it is an ordinary web request, so it is not anonymous, not end-to-end encrypted, and not fully offline. What this page describes is narrower and specific: your selected export, the media inside it, your prompts, and the organization data you create are processed locally in your browser and are not sent to an Afterimage server.
Files you select
Your browser grants temporary access to the folder you choose. Afterimage reads the metadata catalog and available image assets to construct the gallery. The selected export is treated as read-only. Closing or refreshing the page removes access to those files, and you will need to select the folder again.
Organization data
Favorites, tags, ratings, albums, notes, and display preferences are stored in your browser using IndexedDB. If IndexedDB is unavailable, the app may use local browser storage as a fallback and will tell you. Clearing this site's browser data can remove that information and the cached application shell unless you first download a metadata backup.
Metadata backups
A backup is a JSON file downloaded directly to your device. It contains user-created organization data associated with media IDs. It does not contain original images, videos, or Grok account credentials.
Installed app and offline shell
When supported, Afterimage’s service worker caches only first-party application code, pages, and visual assets needed to open the interface and guidance offline. It does not place selected exports, prompts, media IDs, local images, local blobs, downloaded metadata backups, or remote xAI videos in that cache. Installing does not create an offline copy of an export or remote videos, and the browser will still ask you to choose an extracted folder after access ends.
External video previews and playback
When a video card becomes visible, or when you attempt playback, your browser requests that video's MP4 directly from xAI's media host at imagine-public.x.ai, using the media ID associated with the item. xAI consequently receives that media ID as part of the requested URL, together with ordinary connection information such as your IP address and browser details, under its own policies. These requests happen automatically as you scroll through videos. Afterimage does not proxy, log, or store them. Preview and playback bytes may enter the browser's temporary network cache, but Afterimage does not save a durable video file. External playback is labeled in the interface and offers a Grok link when it is unavailable.
Opening a Grok post
Separately, some items carry a link supplied by your export. Opening one is a navigation you choose to start: it leaves Afterimage for that external address in a new tab. Whatever site the link points to receives ordinary connection information under its own policies. This is a different path from the video requests above, and it happens only when you click the link.
Hosting and diagnostics
Afterimage is served from a public static host. Like any website, that host may retain ordinary access and security logs — such as IP addresses, timestamps, and requested paths — needed to deliver and protect the site. This beta has no accounts, no backend, no analytics, no advertising trackers, and no cloud media storage, and it does not intentionally collect library contents. If privacy-preserving product analytics are introduced, they must never include prompts, media IDs, filenames, or media contents, and this notice must be updated first.
Deleting local data
Use your browser's site-data controls to delete Afterimage data. This can remove browser-stored organization metadata and the application-shell cache. Download a metadata backup first if you want to restore your organization later.
